The magical time of summer – no worries, no stress, no emails – digital detox. Detox from everything. Enjoy the spirit of “mañana” when things can be put off. Extend this bliss just a bit and treat yourself. And so does your boss, and her boss.

After the summer break, it’s time for a critical realization. The annual revenue goals stay unchanged, and the planning for the next investment cycle is imminent. Two positions are still vacant in your team. It’s crucial to execute the cut-over for your team to prevent post-Christmas setbacks. This timeline leaves less than 130 days from the date of this post.
You return from your vacation, and so does your manager. After a very short grace period on your first day, you barely have enough time to plow through your inbox. You are expected to be on track.
Does it feel to you like it’s the same game all over again? Some refer to it as the “hamster wheel”. How about initiating your learning journey, instead of just longing for it?
Transformation leaders know the rhytem of their organization. Your goal should not be to “make it to the vacation period.” You should plan beyond this period. Pencil in workshops, meetings, and phone calls for after vacation period. Will your plan change because your boss is now back fully recovered and returns with bright ideas? Surely it will. At least you have your plan laid out.
A plan is good. Planning is better.

So, let’s get back to work – but before pause and learn:
- Be clearn on what is your desired state after vacation?
- Have you put the right ressources and communication in place?
- How can this be improved?
And don’t worry, the next holiday season is just around the corner. So you can put your learnings into practise. 😉
